Wednesday 3rd June

Hello, hello, hello! How are you all today? Have you enjoyed the rain? I certainly know that my garden will have appreciated the soaking, the grass was looking rather brown.

Thank you to all of the families that have completed the online booking form if they wish for their child to return to school. Currently, we can only offer places to children of critical workers where there is no one else available to look after them at home; nursery children; reception children; year one children and year six children. We will let you know if the guidance from the government changes.

Today, we have welcomed back Mrs Tansley. Mrs Tansley will officially return from her maternity leave at the end of the month, in the meantime she is going to be with us on a Wednesday and a Thursday to get used to our new routines. It is lovely to have Mrs Tansley back as part of our wonderful staff team.

Recently, we have been very spoilt with the weather and I have spent lots of time outside. Today we have seen a change in that weather and we are facing a drop in temperatures and rain - this could mean that we are spending more time indoors, and possibly a bit more time watching television. Have you got a favourite TV series or cartoon series? As a group of staff we have been discussing our favourite cartoon characters, and there is a quiz for you to complete at the end of the blog to do with this.

A cartoon is a type of illustration, sometimes animated, typically in a non-realistic or semi-realistic style. Cartoon characters are often drawn in a simplified or exaggerated way. The person who draws the cartoons is called a cartoonist. Some famous cartoon characters include SpongeBob SquarePants, Bugs Bunny, Popeye and Scooby Doo. I bet you can name a lot more! Why don’t you challenge yourself to see if you can name a cartoon character for each letter of the alphabet…

A = Alvin (from Alvin and the Chipmunks)

B = Bugs Bunny

C = Charlie Brown

D = Donald Duck

… I will let you continue with the rest!

Snoopy (see the blog picture) is my favourite cartoon character. Snoopy is the pet beagle of Charlie Brown in the comic strip Peanuts. I can remember watching the cartoon and Snoopy was often on top of his dog kennel day dreaming. I used to have a Snoopy soft toy, I wonder if it is still at my parent’s house - I might have to check that out. So, drum roll please, for our quiz today you need to match the staff member with their favourite cartoon character.

  1. This purple dog is one of Miss Richardson’s favourite characters. She used to make pillow tents in the living room with her brother, as they both found this cartoon quite scary to watch.

  2. This very famous dog, already mentioned in today’s blog, is a favourite of Mrs Dudley’s. He is such a coward, but always comes out on top when finding the bad guys.

  3. Mrs Higgins loves the fact that this female cartoon characters drives a car and is feisty, independent, glamorous and wins lots of races.

  4. This mouse is favourite of Mrs White’s. Recently, she has been watching it on repeat for several hours at a time! I think this character might also be her son’s favourite.

  5. Mrs Hamblett loves this cartoon baby. He is the leader of a group of babies who get up to mischief. Her own sons used to watch it when they were little. Mrs Hamblett loves the thought of babies being able to communicate with one another before they can even talk.

  6. This top cat always makes Miss Thacker smile. She has been known to sing along to the song Mr Brady also thinks that this top cat is a cool cat! He didn’t mention singing along to the song.

  7. Miss Raphael has lots in common with her favourite character - Arthur. They have the same initials, wear glasses and have two sisters. Mrs Hackett loves Arthur as well. She used to make sure she was home everyday after school to watch it, this is when programs were still on BBC1 before tea!

  8. Mrs Fawke loves the bedtime routine of Miss Thacker and Mr Brady’s favourite character. This meant watching the credits, but she didn’t mind.

  9. This spiky haired, yellow character is a favourite of Mrs Marriott. She describes him as loveable rogue and she would always hope that he would make the right choice in the end. Year 6 children found him very cool in 1990!

  10. Flintstones, meet the Flintstones; They’re the modern stone age family; From the town of Bedrock; They’re a page right out of history…Mrs Waters enjoyed watching this cartoon as a child and her family dog ‘Barney’ is named after her favourite character. Mrs Birch is also a fan of this cartoon.

  11. Mrs Walters loves this cat and mouse duo and the mischief they get into.

  12. Making her first appearance on our blog quiz is the lovely Mrs Tansley. For her this yellow, caring bear is her favourite cartoon character. As a child (and she might even still do it now) she would put on ‘Funshine Shows’ for her family to cheer them up with her terrible jokes.

  13. This science mad character is a favourite of Miss Jenkins.

  14. Mr Holder’s favourite character is an evil genius, trapped inside the body of a baby.

  15. This awesome foursome are all named after famous artists. Mr Priest’s favourite is Leonardo.

  16. Mrs Shinner didn’t read the question properly - although not a cartoon character, Wizardora was her favourite character as a child and she still sings the theme tune now.

I hope you enjoy completing the quiz. Good luck!

Tomorrow we will welcome back some of our year six children, we can’t wait to see you. Please remember that you can only come to school if you have received confirmation from the school, this is for the safety of all the children and staff in our magical bubbles.

We miss you all. Stay safe.
