Thursday 4th June
Bonjour! I can’t believe that it is Thursday already, this week is flying by. Today we welcomed back some more of our year six children, and it really was a pleasure to see them (from a distance).
How did you do with the cartoon quiz? Did you manage to match the cartoon to the member of staff? We had our own quiz in school today, it was such fun. It was hosted by one of year 6 children, and lots of other children and staff joined in using our virtual platforms. We were all able to see each other, despite being in different places around the school. Technology really is amazing!
The quiz had six rounds: maths, English, history, science, authors and a picture round (Mr Priest loved the picture round). Here are some examples of the questions asked:
What is the name of an eight-sided shape?
What type of clause makes sense on its own?
Which Tudor king had six wives?
Who wrote the book Esio Trot?
Would you have been able to answer those questions? I did quite well on the quiz, although I did get the author of a book wrong and I totally guessed the answer to one of the history questions - but surprisingly I was right!
We are now hoping to set up a weekly quiz, with different children preparing the questions and hosting, it really was a great way to bring our school community together even though we have to stay apart. For those of you at home, maybe you could set up a quiz for your family - don’t forget to provide a prize for the winner!
There are lots of quiz shows on television, you may even be a fan of quiz shows. Or perhaps your grown-ups are? If I find myself watching a quiz show, I often shout out the answers as if the host can hear me! Here are some of the better known ones:
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - the show features a quiz competition in which contestants attempt to win a top prize of £1,000,000 by answering a series of multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty. An example of a million pound question was: In the history of motorsport, which of these iconic races was held first? Le Mans 24 Hours; Monaco Grand Prix; Indy 500; Isle of Man TT. I wouldn’t have had a clue!
The Chase - in this show the contestants play against an opponent, known as the ‘Chaser’. The Chaser’s job is to catch each contestant during their individual chase - by answering more questions correctly and eliminating that person from the game.
Pointless - in this show contestants are tasked with finding the obscure answers to questions, rather than the most obvious.
The starters to your lessons in school are often like mini-quizzes, where you are asked to quickly recall facts and knowledge you already have. Perhaps you could even create a quiz for the children and staff in school, email us your questions to children@olive.dudley.sch.uk.
Have a good evening all. Stay safe.
