Tuesday 24th March

A BIG hello to the Olive Hill community.

Our cleaners have been very busy cleaning our school today - we are currently in the process of doing a ‘deep’ clean. The cleaners go into every room in the school and wipe down every surface and pull all the cupboards out so they can clean behind them - so far they have found lots of sawdust from our guinea pigs, rulers, pencils, rubbers, reading records and home learning! Mrs Stonehouse is exhausted and certainly deserves some chocolate (not that she needs an excuse to eat chocolate). Miss Lee has told me that I need to clear all the surfaces in my office by tomorrow and anyone who has been into my office recently will know that there is a lot of paperwork piled everywhere.

I hope that you are keeping your bedrooms clean at home, and I am sure that some of you will be helping your parents and carers to do things around the house - washing dishes, vacuuming, dusting - they are all essential life skills. You are all very good at keeping your classrooms tidy whilst in school, I think it might be your teachers that make the mess and sometimes I have to tell them about putting their cups into the dishwasher (don’t tell them I’ve told you).

Your teachers have been busy creating your online learning for you but, just like most of you, they are also at home - keeping their children safe. Mrs Waldron’s son now has a pet frog to go with his worms, both Mr Priest and Mrs Sheasby have been outside in their gardens doing some water play with their children and Mrs White has been very creative, making sensory cards for her son. Mrs Shinner has been explaining to Mrs Hackett how to make cakes, and then everyone started moaning they couldn’t get all of the ingredients.

Mrs Shinner’s cake recipe (make sure you have all of the ingredients and ask an adult to help you):

100g of self raising flour; 100g of caster sugar; 100g butter; two eggs. Put all of your ingredients into a bowl and mix. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees or gas mark 4 and bake for approximately 15 minutes if you’ve made fairy cakes or 30 minutes if you’ve made a sponge cake.

We would love to hear about any baking or cooking you have been doing at home, email us at children@olive.dudley.sch.uk.

Stay safe, stay at home.
