Thursday 2nd July

Good evening all. Once again we have reached a Thursday and the week has flown by.

I am rather late writing the blog today due to another meeting. In this meeting I got to share the many great things about our school and it wasn’t a virtual meeting, but a socially distanced face-to-face meeting at Olive Hill.

We had some special visitors from another school in our Trust. They came over to look at our system of assessment (that is where we track all of your academic achievement) and to see the school. I love to show people around our school. Here are just a few things that I like to highlight as we walk around:

  • The provision that we have for two-year-olds on site that ensures children have a great start to their education;

  • The purpose built EYFS environment that has lots of space for the nursery and reception children to learn and develop;

  • Margo and Oreo - I always describe how our older children support the younger children to handle them with care;

  • Our two halls;

  • Our behaviour policy of, ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’;

  • Our school values of, ‘Happy, Confident, Responsible and Successful’;

  • The Nest and how it supports the children emotionally;

  • The provision of toys on our KS1 playground;

  • Our phase libraries that are well-resourced with lots of wonderful books that promote a love of reading;

  • The strength of relationships across the school;

  • Our lovely bright classrooms that are well resourced;

  • Our wide corridors that celebrate the many achievements of our children;

  • The amount of outdoor space for our children to learn and play;

  • The view at the back of the school;

  • Our enrichment afternoons that allow our children to learn new skills in different age groups;

  • The pride that we all take in our environments;

  • How well maintained the school is;

  • Our IT equipment;

  • Our wonderful team of staff that always put the children at the heart of every decision they make;

  • Our supportive community;

  • Our fantastic children who make us smile every day!

I am sure you could add to this list. As always, it is our belief that we can continue to improve and we do enjoy looking around other schools so we can magpie their great ideas and bring them back to Olive Hill.

Families, we now have further guidance regarding reopening in September. We will now start to strategically plan how we bring all of our wonderful children back in September. This will be communicated with you in due course. School will close for the summer break on Thursday 16th July.

We are all very excited about the prospect of having our school community back together again as we miss you so much.

Stay safe.
