Friday 8th October
Happy Friday!
The weeks are just flying by! Can you believe we only have two weeks left until the end of this half term? We will break up on Friday 22nd October and return to school on Monday 1st November.
Thank you to all our families who supported our special lunch on Thursday - LOTS of our children enjoyed a burger for their lunch. Some children found a special winning sticker in their box and they received a prize from our special collection. Mrs Stonehouse had her eyes on the chocolate!
Today, we have hosted reading workshops for our reception families. Mrs Higgins and Mrs Shinner have introduced parents and carers to our new scheme for the teaching of phonics ‘Sounds~Write’ and shared ideas about how to best support children at home with their reading. We encourage all of our families to read together as frequently as possible. It is not only important that children read but also important for them to listen to other people reading - a story before bedtime is a recommendation. In school, we regularly read to all our children - the teachers and teaching assistants can do excellent voices for the different characters!
Earlier this week our year six curriculum ambassadors came together to discuss different aspects of the school. They are still very keen to start supporting our younger children and can’t wait for whole school enrichment sessions to begin again. They like working with mixed age groups and describe it as a strength of the school. Our year six prefects had their first occasion today where they needed to show visiting parents where to go, they did this very well.
Year four made a complete mess of the small hall this afternoon! There was rubbish everywhere! This was for a very good reason, as part of their enrichment sessions they were creating art out of rubbish. There were some excellent outcomes and they did tidy up after themselves.
Parents’ evening appointments will be taking place for the next two weeks. Please do make sure you have booked your appointment online. We are looking forward to sharing your child’s learning with you. A detailed letter has been sent out today regarding the entrances you should use. We will make sure everywhere is well signposted.
For families who have given consent, flu immunisations will take place on Monday 11th October.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.
Stay safe
