Friday 1st October

Happy Friday!

We hope you have all had a fabulous week. Has anyone else noticed that it always seems to rain just as the children are leaving school? The temperature has dropped and we can safely say that autumn has arrived! Please make sure you are sending your child to school with a coat, preferably with a hood (a certain headteacher also needs to take notice of this message!).

You should have received a VERY detailed letter this week regarding our autumn term parents’ evening. Please read it carefully then follow the instructions given to book your appointment. We have already had a high percentage of families book their appointments, thank you. We are very much looking forward to sharing your child’s learning with you. We will send out details closer to the time regarding access to the building as this will depend on the year group.

Today, we said goodbye to Mrs Tansley, just for a short period of time. Mrs Tansley will shortly be having another child - you may have noticed the growing bump! We wish Mrs Tansley well and look forward to meeting baby when we can.

We also said goodbye to Ms Bradley today. Ms Bradley is one of our wonderful cleaners and she also keeps the staff supplied with yummy cakes! It is due to her yummy cakes that we are now losing her as a cleaner. Ms Bradley will now be making lots of lovely cakes as part of her new business adventure. Good luck Ms Bradley, we are happy to be your cake tasters!

This week, our maths coordinators - Miss Raphael and Miss Best, and our English coordinators - Mrs Higgins and Mrs Shinner, have been looking at the progress in children’s books. They have been most impressed with the learning that has taken place so far this term, especially the effort that the children have been demonstrating to achieve their learning outcomes.

We have a new phonics scheme in reception and year one - Sounds Write. We are already seeing the impact of this on our children’s ability to read and write. We will be delivering workshops to parents and carers in these year groups to further support reading at home. Reading fluently is a great gift that opens up the world and we want all of our children to have the best opportunities when it comes to reading.

We have LOTS of jumpers and cardigans in reception that have no names attached. Mrs Copson did leave them on the barriers this evening so parents could claim any belonging to their children. We still have some remaining. Please label your child’s jumper/cardigan clearly with their name - this helps us to quickly reunite lost items with their owner. We love a label at Olive Hill!

Wishing all of our families a fantastic weekend.

Stay safe.
