Friday 4th October

Happy Friday!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Census Day on Thursday, we had lots of uptake for school meals and some very excited prize winners!

On Monday and Wednesday this week, Year one were super excited go on a minibus tour of the local area. They identified different types of building and were able to point out semi-detached houses, terrace houses and places of worship.

We have a real focus on our English curriculum this year with the children getting to experience two new texts this half term all based around the theme of displacement. The children have produced some fantastic pieces of writing that I know they are looking forward to sharing with you over the next two weeks at parents evening.

Writing is a vital skill for children as it plays a significant role in their cognitive, emotional, and social development. First and foremost, by encouraging children to organise their thoughts and make connections between ideas it sharpens critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, writing enhances language and communication skills. By expressing themselves on paper, children improve their vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure, which in turn boosts their ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written form. Writing also provides a valuable outlet for emotional expression. It allows children to articulate their feelings in a safe and constructive way, helping them process emotions and experiences. Whether through journaling or creative writing, this practice can promote emotional regulation and overall mental well-being. Finally, writing nurtures creativity and imagination. As children engage in storytelling or descriptive writing, they learn to think imaginatively and explore new ideas, which can foster a lifelong love for learning and creativity.

Why not encourage your child to help you when writing a shopping list or a card to a friend. Any writing opportunity you can provide will allow them to practise and hone their writing skills and give them a real purpose for their writing.

We cannot believe we are going to be entering week six of this half term already next week; it seems to be flying by! We look forward to seeing you on Monday morning.

Have a lovely weekend!
