Friday 11th October

Happy Friday!

Today has seen a change to Olive Hill’s usual Friday as the school was full of hundreds of rockstars to celebrate the learning platform Time Table Rock Stars. We started the day with an assembly where we sang ‘We will rock you’ as the children came in. Miss Raphael introduced us to the first competition of the day, where staff members took it in turns to see if they could beat each other’s scores. It definitely made the staff think and the children loved cheering their teachers and teaching assistants on. Throughout the rest of the day, the children were able to take part in TTRS challenges in the hall and completed timetable games back in their classroom. We encourage the children to continue to improve their scores at home. A big thank you to Miss Raphael, who organised the day, and made sure it all ran smoothly.

Learning their times tables is essential for several reasons. They provide a strong foundation for math skills. Mastering times tables helps the children easily grasp more complex concepts such as division, fractions, percentages, and even algebra.

In addition, understanding times tables supports critical thinking. Multiplication helps the children to recognise patterns and relationships in numbers, which enhances their logical reasoning and cognitive abilities. As well as this, times tables are practical life skills. From calculating prices and discounts to measuring ingredients or planning routes, multiplication is used in many aspects of daily life.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we started our fortnight of parents’ evenings, and it has been great to see so many parents coming through our doors to share their child’s learning. It has been lovely to see how proud the children have been to share their classroom and their books with their adults.

We always strive to give as much notice to our community of any important dates or information regarding school events. We send out this information using Parentmail. If you feel that you may not be getting these messages, please contact the school office and they can check what email address we have on our records and update where necessary. You are also welcome to check our whole school calendar available on the website - we have added all of the known dates for Autumn Term 2.

We hope you have an amazing weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday morning!
