Friday 18th October
Happy Friday!
Can I start the blog by saying a huge thank you to the community for all your kind donations for the Manna House Pantry. We displayed the food for the children to see in our Harvest Assembly on Monday and talked about the importance of giving to those in need.
On Tuesday afternoon, thirteen of our Year five and six children attended a cross-country competition at Newfield Park Primary School. Miss Flood and Mr Brady said they were so impressed with the resilience that the children showed as they had to do laps of the field including the forest school area. All of the children completed the course, and we even had one of the boys come 2nd out of 73. Well done to everyone who took part!
Today, year two had a fantastic day at RSPB Sandwell Valley. They hunted in the mini beast meadow and used nets to pond dip in the pond. The day really enhanced the children’s learning on animals and their habitats. They got to see a range of mini beasts in their natural habitats, including dragon fly nymph, pond skaters, ramshorn snails, water lice, millipedes, newts, great diving beetles, caterpillars and many slugs, spiders and worms. They even got to see a mouse nest under a log. The children were praised for their behaviour and the leaders of the centre said that they asked really good questions. Well done year two!
At Olive we aim to be a Nut-Free school. The school aims to protect children who have allergies to nuts yet also help them, as they grow up, to take responsibility as to what foods they can eat and to be aware of where they may be put at risk. We ask that you support us with this by not putting any nuts or nut products in school lunch boxes.
Our “Nut-Free Policy” means that the following items should not be brought into school:
Packs of nuts
Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
Cakes made with nuts
Any home cooked meals for packed lunches that are made from nuts
As we head into week 8 of this half term, I know the children (and staff) are starting to feel a bit tired. Next week is full of important learning opportunities and the return of enrichment and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning!
