Friday 25th October

Happy Friday!

Happy last day of this half term. I can’t believe that eight whole weeks have come and gone but I think everyone is ready for a break now. This half term has been full of lots of fantastic learning opportunities, and it has been a real pleasure to see the progress that the children have made already.

Today has seen the return of our enrichment sessions and it was so lovely to see the children all stood together on the playground in their new enrichment groups. For reception, this is their first chance to mix with the rest of the school and begin to form friendships with our older children. The children had the chance to do the first of four activities which includes calligraphy, budgeting, dealing with your emotions and cartoon drawing.

As you know, we have been working hard to support our community to ensure that the children are in school as much as possible. In our achievement assembly on a Monday each week, we announce which class has scored the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance this half term is Apple class and they decided that they wanted to have a movie afternoon for their special treat. Yesterday, the children were treated to a screening in the hall with our comfy sofas and bean bags and brought a whole selection of snacks from home. The children are already talking about how they would like their class to be the one that wins next half term!

Next week, members of our school community will be celebrating the festival of Diwali. It has been lovely to have a member of our parenting community visit us yesterday and today and support our children in learning about this festival through an assembly, some dancing and creating artwork. We have loved having a parent support us in this way and would encourage parents to approach us about the skills they could offer to enhance the children’s education. We wish all of our families celebrating a Happy Diwali.

We have sent our end of half term letter out via ParentMail today. Please do ensure that your read it as it has important information about next half term.

The Reception staff have asked that if you are having any clear outs over the half term holiday, we are always looking for donations of any dressing up costumes, jigsaws, board games and even saucepans that you no longer need. All of these make fantastic props and play items for our EYFS children.

A huge thank you to our Olive Hill community for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 4th November and we hope you all have a lovely half term.
