Friday 27th September

Happy Friday!

There has been a buzz of excitement at school this week with three year groups taking part in their fantastic experience days.

It started with year six on Wednesday, who had a jam-packed day learning all about the World Wars. They began by finding out about the dramatic events at Dunkirk and also explored the Battle of Britain, The Blitz and life on the Home Front. In the afternoon, the children showcased their creativity by producing some brilliant pieces of writing that were truly impactful. This immersive experience helped bring the past to life and the children looked absolutely fantastic in their costumes.

On Thursday, year three were treated to a day lead by a Roman soldier, where they learnt about the Roman’s invasion of Britain. The children took part in Roman games, experienced camp jobs and tasted lentil stew and bread (which many said was actually quite tasty). During the afternoon, the children experienced what it was like to march like a Roman soldier and were able to re-enact a battle using a shield wall.

Today, year five had their Victorian day where they were fully immersed into a Victorian classroom, which introduced them to a rather strict teacher.  They wrote on a slate with chalk and took part in a reading and arithmetic lesson. During the day, they learnt lots about Victorian life, including what inventions were made during this era. In the afternoon, the children created a piece of art work based on a Victorian penny and experience a Victorian PE drill in the hall.

These experience days were all thoroughly enjoyed by the children and really brought their learning to life. Thank you to all parents who supported with providing your child with a costume as it really did make the day extra memorable.

You should have received a letter all about the census next week on Thursday 3rd October. Please encourage your child to have a school dinner on that day, especially if they are entitled to a universal free school meal (for all children in Reception, Year One and Year Two) or an income-related free school meal. If you think you could be entitled to income-related school meals but have not yet applied, please visit the Dudley Council website or enquire at the school office. We will be serving one of the children’s favourite menus: hot dogs and curly fries, followed by ice-cream. The meals will be served in a box and the children could win a prize if they find a special sticker on their box.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
