Friday 22nd October

Happy Friday!

We hope you all enjoyed our mini scarecrow festival today. We loved watching all of our families at the end of the day taking photographs with the temporary additions to our school. It did create a fantastic atmosphere. It may have to become an annual event! During the day the children had the opportunity to go and see all the scarecrows and each class voted for their favourite. The winning designs were:

Bob the Builder (created by nursery with some help from Mrs Birch, Mrs Aziz, Mrs Parker and Miss Skidmore)

Pumpkin Wizard (created by Ash class with some help from Mr Brady and Miss Macaskill)

Harry Potter (created by Miss Walters, Mr Priest and Miss Grasby).

Scarecrows were originally made to do exactly what their name suggests: scare off crows and other birds that might ruin the farmer’s crops. The first scarecrows known to history were made about 3,000 years ago by the Egyptians to protect their wheat fields, especially along the Nile River. Since then, humans have found better ways to keep the birds away from their crops. Probably the most famous scarecrow is the fictional character in The Wizard of Oz who is in search of a brain. There are lots of scarecrow festivals held each year, maybe now you’ve had a taste for it you may visit another one!

Apart from scarecrows, we have had lots of other things taking place this week. Selected year three children attended a dance event - Mrs Higgins was super impressed by not only their dancing but also their conduct. We have held the second week of our parents’ evenings - a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who attended. Year four have been making a mess of the hall once again with their desire to protect the planet (this time there was plastic everywhere) and chicken nuggets were a great hit at lunch today.

We wish all of our families a fantastic October break and look forward to hearing about your adventures and days spent relaxing when we return on Monday 1st November.

Stay safe.
