Friday 5th November

Happy Friday!

We hope that our families who celebrated Diwali yesterday had a wonderful time. It was lovely to see our children sharing their experiences yesterday - we even had a new teacher in one of our classes, teaching the children about Diwali patterns using a special powder! The said new teacher has resumed being a child today!

There were certainly many fireworks last night as families in our local area celebrated Diwali. In fact, the view from the back of school is quite wonderful with fireworks exploding over the rooftops. There will be yet more fireworks to come over the weekend and we look forward to hearing all about the various displays that have been visited come Monday.

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Copson. It is a very rare event that we say goodbye to our lovely colleagues and a fair few tears have been shed. Mrs Copson has been a part of our school for over six years and the majority of our children currently in school will have been supported in their early years by the wonderful Mrs Copson. We asked a few of the children for their memories of her:

“She tells good stories”

“Me and Mrs Copson made some lovely cup cakes together”

“She gave really good hugs”

“She made the line very straight”

“I love her lots”

We are all going to miss her lots and wish her well in her future career. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the children of Olive Hill Mrs Copson.

Finally our new year one outdoor classroom has been built. It will be fantastic addition to our year one environment. Mr Weston is now busy working with the year one staff to furnish the classroom. The children would rather like a slide and some monkey bars - we did remind them that it was a classroom and not a playground.

Today you may have noticed a new crossing lady in the form of Mrs Carpenter and what a grand job she did! As a school we do have concerns regarding how cars are parked outside of the school and we ask our whole community to consider the safety of others when parking. Do not park in such a way that it is illegal or could endanger the life of a child. Cars that park dangerously will be reported to the relevant authorities.

From January 2022 we will be introducing a cashless system for paying money to school for school trips, school dinners and Breakfast Club. We will be providing you with details in the coming weeks and hope this will be welcome addition for many of our parents and carers.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Stay safe.
