Friday 14th March
Happy Friday!
This week at Olive Hill, we have been celebrating Science Week, and what an exciting week it has been! The theme this year was ‘Change and Adapt’ and was introduced in a assembly by Miss Chipman on Monday morning.
On Monday afternoon, each year group took part in hands-on experiments, from growing a rainbow to a bird beak experiment, sparking curiosity and excitement among our young scientists. The children also explored the lives and achievements of incredible scientists such as Katherine Johnson and Stephen Hawking, learning how their work has shaped the world we live in today. It has been wonderful to see the children immersed in all things scientific, asking questions, making discoveries, and developing a real love for learning. Science is such a vital subject, helping children develop problem-solving skills, curiosity, and an understanding of the world around them.
Alongside Science Week, we also held some important workshops for our school community this week. Year six staff led a SATs workshop, giving parents an insight into what the children will experience during their SATs week in May, how we prepare them through a 10-week period of revision, and even giving the children a chance to test their parents with some SATs-style questions! On Thursday, Year one staff held a Phonics workshop, explaining the Phonics Screening Check and how parents can support their children at home with reading and phonics practice.
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended – your support makes a real difference.
Next week, we have the first two nights of Parents’ Evening, and we are looking forward to welcoming parents into school to see and discuss their children's fantastic learning. If you haven’t yet booked an appointment, please do so using our online booking platform, SchoolCloud. If you need any help with booking an appointment, please contact the office, and they will be happy to assist.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday morning!
