Tuesday 14th April

Happy Tuesday all. What have you been doing over the Easter bank holiday? Everything is very different at the moment as we are having to stay inside a lot more. My Easter bank holiday was certainly very different to how I usually spend it. I would usually spend Easter with my family who live in Wales, but this year I stayed in my own home in Birmingham. My sister sent me lots of photographs of my nieces and nephew doing their Easter egg hunt in the garden and my boyfriend sent me a video of his children hunting for their Easter sweets around the house. I really miss my family and friends. Who are you missing? I hope you are able to keep in contact with the people you miss.

As I keep telling you, we really miss all of you. Last week we sent letters, chocolate, seeds and badges to all of the Olive Hill families. I hope you have received your bundle, if not, don’t worry as we had to put some in the post and they will be delivered soon. I bet the chocolate was eaten straight away! We would like you to plant the sunflower seeds if you can - I have planted some in my garden and we have also planted some in the school grounds. Hopefully, the seeds will grow - Miss Walters had to purchase them from a pet store as many of the garden centres are closed at the moment. We can all take part in big science investigation: Will sunflower seeds from a pet store grow? I predict that they will. What do you think? I will be watching my seeds daily to see if anything is happening.

We have asked your home grown-ups to award you Star of the Week for something you’ve done at home. This could be related to your online learning, kindness you have shown towards your family, tidying your bedroom, helping around the house, keeping smiling when things are difficult - there are many, many reasons and we look forward to receiving emails from your grown-ups telling us why they have awarded it to you. Perhaps you could recreate the Star of the Week assembly at home? We would love to see any videos of that - remember if you are playing me, you’ll need a pair of heels! We did hit a slight problem with the badges, we did not have enough Star of the Week badges for every child in the school and the company we order them from is not dispatching orders currently. Our nursery children have been given a gold award and our year six children a platinum award - to be awarded in just the same way as the Star of the Week badges.

Today the most amazing video landed in our inbox. It was a short film of the children of Olive Hill saying thank you to their teachers and sharing the rainbows they’d made. It has made us cry, happy tears! It was so lovely to be able to see your faces because we miss you so much. Miss Richardson said it made her day and gave her goosebumps; Mrs Marriott needed tissues; Miss Best expressed what a lovely thought it was; Mrs Waters said we have such wonderful children and parents at our school; Mrs Dudley loved seeing the happy faces; Mrs Hamblett thought it was amazing; Miss Grice, Mrs Waldron, Miss Jenkins, Miss Homer, Miss Walters and Mrs Fawke thought it was lovely; Mr Holder thought is was absolutely amazing; Mr Priest couldn’t wait to share it with the rest of the staff and Mrs Higgins spotted it first! I am still having messages about it now, it really has cheered us up and means so much to every member of staff at Olive Hill. A huge thank you to all the families involved.

We may have been working on a little surprise of our own…watch this space!

Stay safe our wonderful community.
