Thursday 9th April

Happy Thursday to our wonderful community. The Easter weekend is nearly upon us. Did you know that we have two extra days off over the Easter weekend? Good Friday and Easter Monday. I am guessing that it won’t feel like you are having extra days off this year, as we’ve already been away from school for nearly three weeks. Some of your school grown-ups will still be in school on the Friday and the Monday - that is dedication for you. I hope that you will treat these days like a holiday and have lots of fun with your families whilst staying at home.

You never know, you might even get a visit from the Easter bunny! Chocolate eggs are one of the most recognisable modern traditions of Easter. For those who follow the religious meaning, hollow eggs have become a symbol of Jesus’s empty tomb. Eggs are also a symbol of rebirth. Easter egg hunts are a really popular tradition at Easter. I wonder if you will have one? I did buy lots and lots of Easter eggs before the government asked us to stay at home. I bought one for all the staff at Olive Hill, and do you know what, I gave them out when we found out the school was closing because everyone was so sad and I thought it might cheer them up. I also bought lots of Easter goodies for my nieces, my nephew and my partner’s children - luckily I left them in Wales, so they will be able to have an Easter hunt but I will be very sad not to be with them. If you don’t have any chocolate Easter eggs, you could always draw some eggs and hide them around your house for your family to find.

This morning, I asked your school grown-ups about their favourite Easter eggs. My phone has been pinging all day with their responses. Can you match the clues to the pictures of their favourite eggs?

  • Miss Grasby, Mrs Stonehouse and Miss Grice all like the hard shell of these small chocolate eggs.

  • Miss Best and Mrs Dudley love the individual chocolates wrapped in red.

  • Miss Raphael is a big fan of this classic Easter egg - do you think she uses a spoon to take out the creamy centre?

  • Mrs White enjoys the ripple of a chocolate.

  • Miss Lee says she getting one of her five-a-day when she eats this egg.

  • Miss Hackett adores white chocolate.

  • Mrs Higgins likes to double it (I also doubled the picture!).

  • Mr Holder is just greedy!

  • Miss Cooper likes her chocolate in a spin.

  • Mrs Copson and Mrs Parker like a hazelnut wrapped in chocolate.

  • Mr Priest would eat the bigger one.

  • Mrs Carpenter would saver the smaller one.

  • Mrs Wajid and Mrs Birch enjoy this chocolate from outer space.

  • Mrs Marriott’s chocolate goes CRUNCH!

  • Miss Thacker was very pleased to find something that was free.

  • Mrs Hamblett enjoys orange with her chocolate, as long as it belongs to Thornton.

  • Mrs Aziz likes this biscuit turned into an egg.

  • Mrs Waldron also likes this biscuit turned into an egg, but prefers the smaller variety.

  • Mr Brady’s favourite film is Star Wars.

  • Mrs Sheasby isn’t allowed nuts.

  • Miss Walters likes a teaser.

  • Mrs Waters also likes a teaser, with a side of truffle.

  • Miss Richardson likes her chocolate in pieces.

  • Mrs Shinner is another fan of orange, but not Thornton’s.

  • Miss Jenkins enjoys the soft centre of this chocolate bar.

  • Miss Homer (Y3) likes to mix the white and the milk chocolate together.

  • Mrs Davies is a fan of coffee with her chocolate.

  • Finally, Miss Clarke was so busy deleting all the pictures we had sent on our group, she forgot to send her own. But she is partial to an egg in mug or egg cup.

Good luck with the quiz. Have a lovely extended weekend all. We continue to miss you everyday.

Stay safe.
