Thursday 9th July

Hello everyone. It is Thursday, again, how has that happened so fast!

Families, as you are aware we are busy preparing for the full opening of school in September. The government guidance does encourage schools to resume wrap-around-care in September. At Olive Hill we have a popular breakfast club and a private provider, Acorns, offers after school provision. Mrs Birch will be contacting all of our families that use our breakfast club provision next week so that we can plan for September. If you have not previously used our breakfast club provision and would like to make an enquiry, please contact the school office. We will be running our breakfast club in line with health and safety guidance, further details will be provided in the near future. As I understand it, Acorns will also be resuming after school provision in September. Please contact them directly if you wish to make an enquiry.

The government guidance has stated that schools should consider staggered starts and finish times to limit the number of people accessing the school site at any one time. This is something we will be putting into place at Olive Hill. We will be bringing the children into school in alphabetical order of surnames, where there is more than one surname in the family we will go by the surname of the eldest sibling. We will confirm exact timings once we have checked the number of families who fall into each group. We expect that they we fall into the following range: 8.30am to 9am and 2.45pm to 3.15pm. During our partial closure we have been using the school car park for drop off and collection (the staff have parked elsewhere on the school site), this will continue in September. The vehicle access will remain closed throughout the school day with access for deliveries only.

Children, I have been commenting on many of your reports this week - along with Mr Priest, Mr Holder and Miss Walters. Despite the school having to close a lot earlier than expected, I am still amazed with everything you have managed to achieve. Well done to you all. Your reports look a little bit different this year, they very much focus on you as an individual rather than reporting on the content of every subject (which is communicated via your year group newsletter). There is a section about your character development; a section about your academic achievement in the core subjects of English and maths; a section about your academic achievement in the other subject areas and section about your oracy skills. Today I have been commenting on the year six reports, and it has made me feel both happy and sad. Happy because I have watched them grow and mature into the beautiful people that they are and sad because we are saying goodbye to them.

Anyway, I must now return to reading and commenting on reports or they will never reach your homes.

We miss you all. Stay safe.
