Friday 26th June

Happy ‘bubble’ Friday everyone!

Families, before I tell you about what has been going on at Olive Hill this week I just wanted to make you aware that Olive Hill will be closed during the summer holidays. We are still awaiting further guidance regarding all children returning to school in September - as soon as the government produces this we will keep you informed of our plans. We have loved having more children in our school building since the start of June and we can’t wait to see all of our children back in their school environment and enjoying all that we have to offer.

Despite having much smaller numbers of children than we usually do, the weeks at Olive Hill continue to be super busy. Here are some highlights from this week:

  • Mr Weston has been busy painting our school halls. They both look so much brighter. Thank you Mr Weston for always making sure our school building is well maintained. We are lucky to have you.

  • Our year six children have been busy making volcanoes. I really wanted to join in as it looked so much fun.

  • Our nursery children made the most delicious fairy cakes, with an owl on top. They arranged for one to be delivered to me and I quickly gobbled it all up!

  • The children in school have been enjoying eating their lunch outside with their teachers and teaching assistants. It is lovely to walk through the school grounds and see everyone in their magical bubbles chatting and eating together.

  • We had a great virtual quiz this week, hosted by one of our year 2/3 keyworker bubbles. The children who were hosting were absolutely amazing - they had prepared excellent slides, their voices were super clear and they had considered their audience. The quiz included questions about dinosaurs, superheroes and birds. Everyone was super impressed!

  • I delivered a whole school virtual assembly on Monday. All of the magical bubbles tuned in to hear me read a story about facing our fears. Mr Holder is going to do another assembly on Monday. At some point I am also hoping to do a virtual Pilates session. We are looking at all the different ways we can use technology to keep our bubbles connected.

  • Some of our year 6 children also delivered a virtual pitch for a new theme park. The children took it in turns to deliver their pitch to their audience and then we all had to vote for the winning theme park.

  • Today we had ‘bubble’ Friday. The staff love bubble Friday. Mr Priest has a new bubble wand that produces huge bubbles! Now all of the staff want one. I really enjoyed popping the bubbles with our nursery children.

I hope you have had as much fun at home as we have in school. All this fun is making me really tired!

Have a fabulous weekend all. We miss you.

Stay safe.
