Friday 13th October

Happy Friday!

Today can certainly be described as a very wet day! The weather has kept our children inside for most of the day, and as I write this we are awaiting the return of year two who have been on a trip (with lots of outdoor activities planned, we were pleased to see lots of wellies and raincoats this morning).

Thank you for the amazing Harvest donations that came into school this morning, there were lots of bags full of food to support the Manna House Pantry. As adults, it is important that we role model and share the gift of giving with the younger generation. Creating responsible citizens, who look after each other and the world we live in, is certainly something we aim for here at Olive Hill. We often talk about how, in a world where you can be anything, it is important to be kind.

We have a fortnight of parents’ evenings here at Olive Hill, and it has been great to see so many parents coming through our doors to share their child’s learning. It is even better when you see how proud the children are to share their learning. Our children have so much to be proud of, and we are certainly very proud of them.

Last week we held a phonics workshop for our reception families, thank you to all the families who supported this. Reading is essential for our children’s success, and allows them access to the rest of the curriculum. There is something very magical about children learning to read for the first time. We encourage all children to read both in school and at home as much as possible. We have a growing group of wonderful volunteers who are supporting our children with reading during the school day.

Year two have arrived back! They’ve had a wonderful day, even though some of their outdoor activities had to take place inside. They have seen lots different creatures including a slug with eggs! The facilitators of the trip were very impressed with their excellent conduct. Well done year two, you are a credit to all of your grown ups.

Hopefully, the weather will dry up over the weekend (what a contrast to last weekend) and our families will be able to enjoy some time outdoors in the fresh air. We are looking forward to welcoming more of our parents into school next week for the rest of our parents’ evenings.

Have a lovely weekend.
