Friday 13th November
Happy ‘Pyjama’ Friday!
We have had a lovely day in our pyjamas. I must say, I have seen some fabulous lounge wear around school today - a few unicorns, a couple of crocodiles, various animal prints, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pokemon and quite a few Pudsey outfits. After lunchtime, each classed showed off their fancy pyjamas in a virtual hello; we even had some dance moves. Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Children in Need appeal. Mrs Carpenter had added up all your kind donations and we had raised £519.89, however, we then had another influx of donations at the end of the school day so we’ll ask Mrs Carpenter to carry on adding on Monday. At the end of this blog, I have included some headless pictures of members of staff. Do you know who the bodies belong to? Have been observant around school today? Perhaps the background will give a clue, or not!
On Wednesday 11th November we held a special, socially distanced, Remembrance Ceremony. The whole school was able to be outside for the event and all of the children carried a poppy that they had created in school. We observed the two minute silence together and the children were amazing. Even our nursery children participated. The staff were really moved by the ceremony - with many describing how it gave them goose bumps.
PLEASE consider others when you are parking or using the road outside of school. We have a number of people who are doing three point turns in the road whilst there is a lot of traffic, both vehicles and people on foot. We had an incident earlier in the week that narrowly avoided a serious accident. A copy of a letter from our local PCSOs can be found on on our website. This letter details how they will be monitoring the use of the road outside of the school and the consequences for drivers who do not abide by the law.
Unfortunately, we have had our first positive Covid-19 case that has meant the closure of a bubble to our children and some members of staff. We have been lucky to get this far into the academic year without the need to close a bubble, but it hasn’t made it any easier. I felt awful having to write the letter to our year three families to inform them that their child was not able to attend school, but keeping everyone safe must continue to be our priority. We are not able to provide any specific details but we have followed the guidance of the DfE and PHE. We have had some questions from our families that we have been able to answer and others that have required a phone call elsewhere (I have learnt that you will be left on hold for a long time!). The year three staff will be in regular contact with our year three children who are self-isolating. Parents and carers, believe me when I say that we share your frustrations, having our children in school is what we want and we really do long for the day when we can return to ‘normal’. Year three, we are really missing you and can’t wait for you to return, when, as promised, you’ll have your very own Pyjama Day.
A few parents have asked about Christmas cards. This was a good reminder that we are fast approaching what should be a fun time of year. As much as possible, in a Covid secure way, we want to ensure that our children are still able to embrace the fun. The children will be able to bring in Christmas cards for the other members of their bubble. Each year group bubble will have a special box or bag where the cards can be posted over the week. The cards will then be quarantined over the weekend before being distributed on a Monday. Talking of Christmas, don’t forget to pre-order your school Christmas dinner.
That’s it, I am done for the evening. I am ready for bed (literally). This week’s blog has been a mixture of excitement, pride, concern and looking to the future. I am lucky that I love my job and I’m surrounded by wonderful staff, beautiful children and a supportive community.
Have a good weekend and stay safe.
