Happy Friday!

Welcome to the first blog of the new school year. We hope that you had a lovely summer break. We have really enjoyed hearing about the children’s activities over the holiday. Many children have travelled to different parts of the country; there have been lots of days out and lots of late mornings!

At Olive Hill, we want our children to really enjoy coming to school and really enjoy their time at home. It was lovely to see their smiling faces on Monday as they found their way to their new classrooms.

Year six are already into the full swing of their jobs across the school - it is wonderful that they can now have this responsibility once again. The fruit is delivered promptly across the school and our recycling bins are emptied! Thank you year six, we really appreciate your support. They are looking forward to supporting our younger children when the risk assessment allows.

Year five, like many of our children, have grown taller over the summer! They have quickly settled to the routines and expectations of their new year group and we are very much looking forward to seeing their outcomes over the academic year. They can’t wait to start their guitar lessons!

Year four are thinking about their responsibility to look after the world in which we live. Earlier in the week, their classrooms were full of plastic rubbish and they were asked to consider how this made them feel. Needless to say, it was not an enjoyable feeling for them and it has ignited their passion for looking after our world.

Year three are enjoying being in a different corridor - they’ve certainly grown up and are showing that they are ready for key stage two. They have certainly impressed us with how sensible they are when walking around the school, especially during lunch time.

Year two are loving the different games they play in maths and English to help make their learning memorable. We have really noticed how supportive they are of each other, for example, when they bring their trays to the hall after they’ve eaten, somebody will always hold the door open for the others without being asked. They really are showing great kindness towards each other. Well done year two.

Year one keep telling us how much fun they are having! They love being a part of the main school building and have quickly found their way around. We are looking forward to their new outdoor classroom being installed next month. This is going to give them even more space in which to learn and play.

Reception have amazed us all! They have quickly settled to the routines and expectations of the reception environment and they are very independent when getting their lunch - we have some fabulous tray holding! Well done reception! They are a really social group of children and it has been great to see the friendships that have formed already.

Nursery are having a staggered start to the new school year. The nursery staff have enjoyed meeting the new children and can’t wait for them all to be in and learning together.

We hope that all our parents and carers have also enjoyed the children’s return to school. Earlier this week, you should have received a curriculum newsletter detailing the learning that will be happening in your child’s year group over the first term. We are hoping to host a parent’s evening prior to half term - as soon as we have confirmed the details, we will let you know. We love to discuss your child and their learning with you.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces on Monday morning.

Stay safe and have fun.
