Friday 10th January

Happy Friday!

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope you all had a joyful and restful Christmas holiday with your loved ones. As we step into 2025, we are looking ahead to lots of exciting events this term so keep an eye on our website, Facebook page and blog for updates and more information.

It’s been an exciting and busy week at Olive Hill, with each year group diving into their learning experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm. Let me share some of the highlights from our classrooms!

Our youngest learners in Nursery had a delightful time listening to stories and getting hands-on by mixing dough to make bread. The smiles on their faces as they engaged in this sensory experience were priceless!

Reception embraced a classic tale by baking their own gingerbread men. However, in a surprising twist, the class gingerbread man escaped, leaving behind only crumbs! The children had a fantastic time trying to piece together what could have happened.

Year one had a fantastic time exploring numbers and learning about tens and ones in their maths lessons. They used base ten equipment to deepen their understanding, and it was wonderful to see their confidence with numbers growing each day.

Year two started their term with an intriguing activity involving sniffing different bottles to identify smells linked to their new learning experience. Their sense of wonder and curiosity set the tone for an exciting term ahead.

Year three had a thrilling introduction to their new learning adventure under the theme "I'm a Year three Child, Get Me Out of Here!" The children bravely put their hands into different substances to discover key words linked to their learning experience. Their courage and excitement were wonderful to witness!

In Year four, science took centre stage as the children explored the fascinating world of solids and liquids. They thoroughly enjoyed identifying the properties of different substances and discussing what makes each unique.

Year five immersed themselves in the vibrant sounds of traditional Mexican music during their music lesson. This cultural experience will serve as inspiration for creating their own musical pieces later in the term.

Our Year six pupils began their exploration of ancient civilisations by examining the features of an Egyptian dance. This will form the foundation for their own performance, and we can’t wait to see their creativity shine!

As we settled back into school life, the winter chill certainly made its presence known! With temperatures dropping, we kindly remind parents and carers to ensure children come to school dressed appropriately for the cold weather. Warm coats, hats, scarves, and gloves are essential to keep them comfortable during time outside. Our staff have been diligently carrying out risk assessments during the day to ensure the playground is safe for the children to enjoy as we know how important it is for the children to get some fresh air and time to socialise outside each day.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend, and we looking forwarding to seeing you on Monday.
