Thursday 3rd December
Happy Thursday!
On Tuesday, we saw the start of December. December is the twelfth and final month of the year. It is also the last of seven months to have a length of 31 days. December got its name from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) because it was originally the tenth month of the year - many, many years ago. In the United Kingdom, December is a winter month and temperatures can plummet. We may even see some snow! It is also the count down to Christmas for many families across the world. Many of our children were very excited to tell us about their Advent calendars on Tuesday. Guess what, my lovely dad still buys me an Advent calendar. This year I have a Galaxy one.
Yesterday evening, all of the staff stayed behind after school to decorate our classrooms and corridors. It was so lovely to watch our children’s faces light up this morning when they saw the decorations. There was even more excitement at lunchtime when our younger children saw the tree in the hall. At one point, there were more children sat around the Christmas tree than actually eating. Needless to say, we were a little bit late getting out of the hall today. The excitement then grew again when the children left school as Mr Weston had put some lights up outside, along with a climbing Santa and a washing line full of Santa’s clothes.
We also have a family of elves who have moved into Olive Hill. They are very mischievous! We have: Boris, the Office Elf; Harold, the SLT Elf; Norman, the Nursery Elf; Elvis, the Reception Elf; Edward, the Year 1 Elf; Percy, the Year 2 Elf; Archie, the Year 3 Elf; Buddy, the Year 4 Elf; Elfie, the Year 5 Elf and Jingle, the Year 6 Elf. Take a look at what they have been up to:
Some of the children have suggested that our elves may need some time in reflection!
Families, we will not see you tomorrow as we have a training day. We hope you all have a fabulous extended weekend.
Stay safe.
