Monday 20th April
Happy Monday everyone. I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Following the blog about walking last week I was inspired (thank you Miss Hackett) to explore my local area more and yesterday I discovered a beautiful woodland close to my home, it had a stream running through it and there were lots wild flowers in bloom. I really did find it quite magical, particularly as the sun was shining through the trees. Good news - the sunflower seeds have started to grow - I planted a few in my back garden and I was very excited to see green shoots when I checked on their progress. The Easter break - although it didn’t really feel like an Easter break - is now over. Hopefully, you have found your new online learning for today.
Now you are at home all day, are you eating a lot? I keeping seeing posts on social media with parents and carers expressing their thoughts about how much their children are eating! You certainly seem to be eating more than you usually would in school. Although, I think I am doing the same and we know that some of your school grown-ups have been enjoying walking to their fridges! Every Thursday I have to write a shopping list for my boyfriend as his children stay with him over the weekend and he keeps moaning that I put too much on the list (I tell him that he can write his own list then) but by the end of the weekend all of the food has been eaten. In fact, every time I speak to them they are eating!
Do you have a favourite meal? I love a roast chicken dinner, especially if my mum has made it as she makes the best roast potatoes. Miss Hackett also loves a roast dinner, but it has to have Yorkshire puddings. Do you like a Yorkshire pudding? I tried to make them one, it was a disaster, I will stick to the frozen variety. Mrs Birch loves a shepherds pie. Do you know the difference between a shepherd’s pie and a cottage pie? Both consist of a meat base covered in a potato to crust. The only real difference between the two is the meet: a shepherd’s pie is made with lamb and a cottage pie is made with beef. Mrs Carpenter’s favourite meal is steak, mushrooms and chips. Ms Woodward, our head cook, often asks what you like to eat so she can incorporate it into the school menu if possible - but she does have to follow super strict guidelines from the government. Have you been helping at home with the cooking? Mrs Higgins likes it when someone else cooks for her because it means she doesn’t have to go shopping, she doesn’t have to stand and chop and cook, and she doesn’t have to wash up afterwards. I don’t like washing up either, I do tend to let my dishes pile up in the sink (it’s very naughty) - I hope you help your grown-ups with the washing up.
This morning I asked your school grown-ups about their favourite meals. My phone has been pinging all day, food is clearly something they are thinking about a lot. They sent me lots of pictures of their favourite meals - I don’t think they’ve actually cooked the food in the pictures, but it is food that they like to eat. Can you match the member of staff to the picture of their favourite meal?
Mrs Dudley has the same taste as Mrs Carpenter, but without the chips.
Miss Walters loves her pizza covered in vegetables, as does Miss Parker. Miss Parker does NOT like mushrooms. Which pizza belongs to who?
Miss Richardson likes anything that is cheesy and Mexican. She likes a dollop of sour cream to cool down the spices.
Mrs Waters also enjoys a pizza with vegetables, but she likes to have chicken as well.
Mrs Sheasby enjoys her meal served with rice and a sprig of coriander. It can be spicy!
Miss Jenkins has a similar taste to me and Miss Hackett.
Miss Cooper likes a wrap filled with chicken and peppers, finished off with a green dip made from avocados.
Miss Raphael also likes a wrap. But this one is vegetarian, baked in the oven and covered in cheese.
Mrs Waldron enjoys this layered classic.
Mrs Copson also enjoys the layered classic, but likes hers with a side of salad.
Mrs Hamblett loves the taste of Italy - spaghetti and meat mixed together and topped with cheese. Bellissimo!
Miss Thacker has the same taste as Mrs Dudley and Mrs Carpenter, but she likes blue cheese melted on hers.
Miss Homer (Y6) savours anything with the taste of pasta and cheese. The meat sits on top of her pasta.
Mrs Mariott adores this fish served with rice and vegetables.
Mr Holder has this meal when he is on holiday. It comes from the sea and is served with chips. A French classic.
Miss Macaskill likes to keep it simple. A pizza with limited toppings. Did you know, Miss Macaskill has also been known to make herself a pizza sandwich!
Miss Best likes to dip her chips into the egg yolk. Yummy!
Mrs Stonehouse appreciates a bit of spice, chicken and rice.
Mr Brady eats this on a Friday when he visits his favourite restaurant or gets a take-away.
Miss Grice is another one who enjoys a baked tortilla. She likes it with chips.
Miss Clarke enjoys the chicken and leek inside her homemade pastry.
Mrs Aziz loves the taste of a barbecue.
Miss Wajid is also a fan of the spice, chicken and rice - she likes it served with flat bread for dipping.
Mrs Fawke is another fan of pasta, this time with bacon and cheese.
Mr Priest is a fan of Popeye’s favourite meal and a bit of chicken.
Have fun trying to guess them all. I bet it will make you hungry.
If you have any questions you would like me to ask your school grown-ups please email me at children@olive.dudley.sch.uk - if I can, I will do a blog with the answers. Perhaps you’d like to know about their favourite animals, or their favourite children’s book, or the names of their favourite celebrities. Maybe you’d like to know about their childhood memories, the people who mean most to them, the best place they’ve ever been - have a think about the questions you’d like me to ask.
We miss you so much. Stay safe.
