Happy Friday!

Last weekend saw the arrival of the Lunar New Year, which our children have been discussing in assembly today. The children enjoyed hearing the story of the origin of the Zodiac signs. This year is the year of the rabbit.

This afternoon, the school has been buzzing with the joy of our enrichment afternoons. It was a pleasure to see all of the groups of children from Reception through to Year 6 learning together. Every child will now have experienced each of the 4 enrichment activities: tying knots; learning sign language; first aid and reacting to emergencies; and traditional board games. Seeing our oldest children working with some of our youngest children in school, is a real magic moment., especially seeing them walk hand-in-hand as they help the younger children find their way back to their own classrooms at the end of the day.

Families will have received a letter on Wednesdays which outlines our school’s arrangements for the planned strike action on Wednesday 1st February. School will remain open for the following year groups and children will be expected to attend as normal: Nursery, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, year 5 and Year 6. Attendance in Reception and Year 1 will be restricted to those children who are classed as vulnerable and those who are children of critical workers.

Lots of children have enjoyed seeing their wonderful artwork displayed in our new gallery space in the circulatory area by our school hall and kitchen. The display features artwork from each year group and demonstrates the journey through our art curriculum at Olive Hill. There have been many excited smiles as children have spotted their work and their name on the displays as they come through to collect their lunch.

It has also been lovely to see lots of children accessing our wide range of extra-curricular activities after school. A huge thanks goes to our dedicated team of staff who have been providing opportunities for children to take part in clubs such as wind band, poetry club, cooking club, textiles club and netball club. These clubs are always very popular with our children!

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
