Friday 15th September
Happy Friday!
We have completed our first full week back, and we are certainly now into the full swing of all things Olive Hill! Some of our reception children are looking very tired today after their first full week in ‘big’ school (I know how they feel).
On Wednesday, our school was invaded by Romans (otherwise known as year three children). The children had a fabulous day learning about life in the Roman times but found their Roman outfits a little scratchy! They have been very keen to share their experiences of eating Roman food - this was very similar to stale bread!
This week we also had an unplanned fire alarm and we have to say how wonderful everyone was, particularly as it happened over a lunchtime. Our older children knew exactly what to do and our younger children followed instructions beautifully. Although this wasn’t a planned drill, we were very impressed with how quickly and sensibly the school was evacuated.
On Thursday evening the year six staff held a short meeting for parents and carers who will shortly be making their choices regarding secondary schools. We really appreciate what an apprehensive time this can be for our families and we will support where we can.
The return to school has understandably seen an increase in the amount of traffic on the surrounding roads. We frequently express our concerns regarding driving and parking around the school site. We don’t do this because we like to nag, we do this because we are genuinely concerned for the safety of our community. Please be considerate of where you are parking, we have many residents including elderly residents, who need access to their driveways. We have also observed cars parking on the pavement, leaving very little room for people to pass and forcing families with young children onto the road. Please leave enough time at the beginning and end of the day to find somewhere safe and considerate to park, even if it means walking a little bit further.
We can’t wait to see what next week brings, but in the meantime have a lovely weekend.
